Maggie's Movie Log
Here is where I will record the movies I watch from now on.
This concept is inspired by the A24 Movie Log, which my Dad gave to me for my birthday. Love you, Dad.
You may call my rating system generous, but I still like to call it truthful.
Rating System:
5 Stars does not necessarily mean a film is perfect, but it does mean that the film does an exceptional job at conveying an excellent message. It has a lot to say.
4 Stars usually denotes a film with which I have at least one major objection to its message or the way said message is conveyed. But the film is still well-made and original, and that is still incredibly commendable.
3 Stars means that in addition to any objections I may have with the film's message or the manner in which it is conveyed, I also feel as if the film is saying a lot less than it could have. Originality may be lacking in some places. You begin to notice missed potential here.
2 Stars are for films that regrettably did not get the time or care needed in order for them to succeed. Either the film's message or the dialogue it creates with the audience is fundamentally flawed. There is acute missed potential. You watch the film looking for something to latch onto, hoping for something to resonate.
1 Star belongs to films which I myself have trouble discerning the artistic message of. Most of what I see is just corporate, a mere product—not the work of art it deserved to be.
